Parent Advocate Update

Parents Have the Right to Know

How their student is performing in school and how well the school is performing county,
state and nation-wide.
How well their child is performing (grade level report cards and Parent/Teacher Conferences). Important Homework and Learning skills that can be taught at home (Brochures and Parent Advocate Classes).
How to support your student's learning at school (check agendas daily).
When PTA and SIC Board Meetings are held (check monthly calendars).
How your Title I funds are being used ( 2011-2012 Title I Budget).
How your school will benefit from the Capital Campaign CCSD Building Plans (AOES 13 on the list).

Let's  Get Involved Parents

Students with parents who are involved are more likely to:
Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
Be promoted, pass their classes and earn credits
Attend school regularly (less tardies)
Show  improved behavior and adapt well to school discipline policies (PBIS)
Raise children who will in turn be involved in their child's education (generational involvement)
It truly takes a village to raise a child.

From the Principal

Welcome to our site.

A new school year presents opportunities for new beginnings- new classes, new faces, new focus, new material, new teachers and renewal for students. The staff at Angel Oak Elementary would like to welcome you to this new school year and to extend to you and your family a heartfelt welcome to the Angel Oak Elementary family.
Our schools’ reputation and success rests on involvement and engagement of the entire Angel Oak family: students, parents, teachers, staff and community. We seek to afford each student an education that enables him/her to become confident, competent, respectful, responsible, creative and a critical thinker. An education, that is challenging but offered in such a way that it promotes a love of learning. This is no easy task. We have confidence and take pride in our highly qualified and dedicated staff and look forward to our partnership with you as we continue our journey, moving each student to reach their maximum potential this school year.
Charleston County School District’s and Angel Oak’s vision this school year will center on Literacy. This five year vision of Charleston Achieving Excellence (“CAE Vision 2016”) will engage our entire Angel Oak family. This year’s vision and focus will be on increasing the amount of students at the exemplary level, closing the achievement gap between student groups and increasing the graduation rate. We will accomplish these goals at Angel Oak through Effective Teaching and Leadership, continued Literacy Improvement, Strategic Partnerships and World Class Schools and Systems. We will continue to implement brain compatible teaching and learning strategies to educate the whole child and embrace the diversity among us. The Angel Oak Elementary family has proven this is possible by the achievement and awards we received last year in all areas of our school program.

We hope your experiences this year will be positive and rewarding. Please stay involved and visit our school’s website often for updated information and announcements. We look forward to partnering with you on this educational journey.

Sincerely,
Rodney Moore
