From the Principal

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. Angel Oaks visionary theme Eyes On Education is in collaboration with CCSDs theme of Results, Access and Partnerships in a literacy rich environment. This years vision and focus will be on brain compatible learning environments and engagement of a rigorous and relevant Coherent Curriculum to include: instructional calendars, formative and summative assessments, DesCartes and the New Blooms Taxonomy. The Results will be measured through triangulation of a variety of data sources (DIBELS, MAP, bench mark assessments, PASS, STAR Reading, Accelerated Reader, teacher designed assessments). Angel Oak stakeholders will examine equity and choice through engagement of RIT Band instruction (Walk to Read), differentiation, flexible grouping, related arts, interventions and technology leading to Access for all. Mutual respect and relationships will be developed through Partnerships with Communities and Schools (CIS), City of Charleston, the College of Charleston (CofC), Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS), Boys and Girls Club (Reading Soul Mates), community tutors, faith based organizations and community business partners. At Angel Oak Elementary School it is the belief that all students can and will learn when provided the opportunity to include individual students learning styles (multiple intelligences), modalities and interests through HET (Highly Effective Teaching).Teachers will incorporate the schools mission into their classrooms daily. We will teach learners to be respectful, responsible, creative and critical thinkers as stated in the schools mission through our Wise 3R matrix (PBIS). Our goal at Angel Oak Elementary is to ensure the visionary theme Eyes On Education- Results, Access and Partnerships for all Angel Oak stakeholders results in a rich literacy learning environment through Highly Effective Teaching.
