The mission of Kiawah Cares is to create community partnerships and contribute to improving the overall quality of life on the Sea Islands. The Kiawah Women’s Group, Kiawah Cares and KICA, benefits the Owl Pack Program. This program is a backpack buddy-type program that feeds 50-60 Angel Oak Elementary School children and their siblings each weekend. Volunteers pack 11 items for each child at the cost of approximately $4 per bag. The participating children are identified by school officials based on the greatest need. This program has helped increase students’ attentiveness and energy. Additional funds will allow the program to grow in the following school year. Ultimately the program would like to add more Sea Island schools. An on-site donation center will be set up as well.
