I grew up in Berkeley County and was educated in the Berkeley County School system. I enlisted in the United States Army after high school and completed 8 years of enlistment. After my active duty service, I attended Trident Technical College, receiving my Associates Degree in Science. I then matriculated at the College of Charleston, where I received my Bachelors Degree in Science (Elementary Education).
I was then employed by Charleston County Government as a Substance Abuse Prevention Professional. I worked with that agency for 9 years. I left Charleston Center and began pursuit of my Elementary Education certification. During the transition, I worked as a long-term substitute with the Berkeley County School system.
Once I was certified, I accepted a position as a 4th grade teacher at Fraser Elementary School where I also taught 5th and 6th graders. I was Teacher of The Year at Fraser after my 2nd year there.
Once that school closed, I took a 3rd grade position here at Angel Oak Elementary. I taught 3rd grade for 2 years then moved up to 5th grade. I've been teaching 5th grade here for 8 years. I was named Teacher of the Year in 2017. I pursued my Masters in Teaching at Kaplan University and now I'm enrolled at Southern Wesleyan University.
In addition to teaching 5th grade, I coach the Angel Oak Owls tennis team. We've won 7 championships. I also work with Kaleidoscope in the afternoons and serve on the School Improvement Council.
Outside of school, I'm very involved at my church as one of the associate ministers. I also matriculate part-time at Payne Theological Seminary. When possible, I give tennis lessons and play both competitively and recreationally. I love the beach, singing, traveling and fine dining. I'm also a good cook.
My education philosophy is: A teacher teaches always because they know how very valuable a good education is for young learners.
